Your Guide to Packing & Moving to Port Liberte
Let's face it—moving is no walk in the park. If you're ready to experience a stress-free transition to your new home, I have a few packing and relocation tips that can streamline your move to Port Liberte. And if you ever have questions, feel free to contact me at any time!
Before You Move
Organize & Declutter
Moving is a great excuse to declutter, reorganize, and pare down all of your belongings. Go room by room and start making piles of things that can be sold, donated, or kept. That way, you'll have less to sort through on moving day!
Lighten the Load
Once you've determined which items you won't be keeping, it's time to actually get rid of them. Consider hosting a garage sale to make some extra cash or donating gently used belongings to a local charity.
Change Your Address
It can take the post office a few weeks to process an address change, so be sure to make arrangements ahead of time. You should also familiarize yourself with Port Liberte's on-site package pickup center!
Handy Packing Tips
- Reinforce: Make sure all items are packed in strong reinforced boxes, and don't be afraid to use lots of bubble wrap. You can even get creative by using old clothes to wrap fragile items.
- Pack small: Pack heavy items in smaller boxes so they're easy to carry, and try not to fit too much into one box. The last thing you want is for all of your things to end up on the floor!
- Pack by room: You can stay organized (and sane!) if you pack room by room instead of tackling everything at once.
- Label: While you're filling up your boxes, be sure to label them with the room they belong in. You can even color code each box if you want an added level of organization.
- Prepare: Create an "Open Me First" box that has all of the essentials you'll need when you first arrive, such as toilet paper, cleaning supplies, tools, and more.
On Moving Day
Keep Important Information
There are certain things that you'll never want to leave on the moving truck, such as important documents or records, valuables, medication, first-aid supplies, and IDs. These should stay with you at all times.
Take an Overnight Bag
Whether you make it to your new home before the moving truck or plan on staying in a hotel, you'll want to pack an overnight bag with all of your personal essentials. Don't forget your toiletries, a change of clothes, or your phone charger!
Have Phone Numbers Handy
If you're using a moving company, you'll want to have their phone number on hand at all times. If you signed any contracts, read them thoroughly and keep them with you throughout the move.
After You Move
Clean First
It's much easier to clean a home when it's not filled with your belongings. Before you start unpacking, take some time to deep clean every nook and cranny of your new place. There's no harm in hiring a professional cleaning service, either.
Unpack by Room
Remember when you labelled and color coded those boxes? Your hard work is about to come in handy! Sort boxes into their proper spots and unpack each room one by one, starting with essential spaces like your kitchen and bedrooms.
